“Wilderness” is one of the most intense and seductive themes in American culture. The wilderness is so much more than just a place to hike, camp, or go fishing. The wilderness cleans our water and air. It provides a home for animals as well as cash for the local villages. There is more wilderness in America than in California, but more than half of it is in Alaska. But only about 5% of the whole of the United States.
Here, I’d like to welcome you to discover some of the most well-known wilderness areas in the nation.
Boundary water Canoe area wilderness, Minnesota
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is located in the northernmost part of the Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota. One of the wilderness areas with the simplest access for outdoor recreation is this one. This is one of the most visited wilderness regions in the whole of America. The BWCA has more than 2 000 permitted campsites, 12 hiking trails, and more than 1200 miles of canoe routes. There are numerous lakes, rivers, trails, and campgrounds that provide a wide range of travel options and the freedom to explore incredibly remote locations that are unrivaled anywhere else in America.
Maroon Bells – Snowmass Wilderness Colorado
This wilderness is home to six of Colorado’s legendary “fourteeners,” including Snowmass Mountain and “the deadly bells.” In order to reach alpine lakes like Maroon Lake, where the Maroon Bells are one of the state’s most recognisable vistas, tens of thousands of mountaineers embark on strenuous ascents every year.
The Four Pass Loop backpacking trail is located in the Maroon Bells – Snowmass Wilderness and is well-known all around the world. This 42-kilometer (26-mile) route crosses four mountain passes that are higher than 12,000 feet, passes by alpine lakes, and travels between towering peaks in the Elk Range. The natural hot springs of Conundrum Creek are situated in this wilderness area.
Mount Evans Wilderness, Colorado
As the highest paved road in North America, the 14,260-foot (4,346 km) top of Mount Evans’ climb route is maintained and operated by Denver City Parks. It is described as a “road into the sky”. Above the treeline, bighorn sheep and mountain goats are common; in contrast, subalpine areas are home to deer and elk. Patches of moist arctic tundra, which are unusual south of the Arctic Circle, are also present in the area.
Three Sisters Wilderness, Oregon
The Three Sisters Wilderness spans 286,708 acres in total. There are around 260 kilometers of trails throughout the wilderness. Significant peaks include Broken Top, the best example of the glacial influence in the Pacific Northwest, and the North, Middle, and South Sisters (all over 10,000 feet). Collier Glacier is the largest glacier in Oregon. It has been fifty years since the second-largest Wilderness area in Oregon was created. Three sizable volcanoes, Rock Mesa, Collier Cone, and Yapoah Crater, as well as lava flows and tubes, give the area its name.
After witnessing these renowned wilderness parks and their unparalleled beauty, I sincerely hope that you will be inspired to visit them and have the time of your life there.
